Deduptio

DemandTools alternative for Attio

DemandTools is Validity's Salesforce data-quality suite: deduplication, data loading, mass updates and standardization, email validation, quality monitoring and change tracking. It is built for Salesforce, and it does not support Attio.

The short version: DemandTools is several products in one licence. Moving to Attio does not mean finding one replacement — it means noticing that Attio already does some of those jobs, that one of them (deduplication) needs a dedicated tool, and that one or two genuinely have no equivalent yet. This page says which is which, including the gaps.

Job by job

DemandTools jobIn an Attio workspace
Identify and remove duplicatesDeduptio.Per-object match rules, exact and fuzzy, grouped review, bulk merge through Attio's native merge, 24-hour rollback
Load records in and outAttio's CSV importer, which matches on a unique attribute and updates rather than duplicating, or the REST API for anything scripted
Mass field updates and standardizationAttio table editing for ad-hoc work; the REST API for rule-shaped transformations
Email verificationNo equivalent in Attio or Deduptio. This is a separate class of product — keep a dedicated verification service if you rely on it
Data-quality monitoring and alertsPartial. Deduptio's scheduled scans email you when new duplicate groups appear. Field completeness and standardization reporting has no direct equivalent
Change trackingAttio's own record activity and audit surface, not a data-quality tool feature
Backup / restore before a bulk operationDeduptio snapshots every merge and restores for 24 hours. Broader workspace backup is a separate concern — Attio has no recycle bin for deleted records

The one difference that changes how you work

In Salesforce you operate with a safety net underneath: a recycle bin, sandbox refreshes, and tools that layer their own restore on top. In Attio there is no recycle bin, and a record deleted by a merge cannot be recovered by you or your team— that is Attio's own documentation, not a competitive claim.

Practically, that changes two things. First, every bulk operation deserves a dry run rather than a confident execution; Deduptio's previews write nothing to Attio and are not capped on any plan. Second, the restore window matters more than it would in Salesforce: every merge is snapshotted before it runs and can be restored for 24 hours, and what the restore does and does not re-create is worth reading once, in advance, rather than at the moment you need it.

What you can stop worrying about

A good share of DemandTools' surface exists to manage Salesforce-specific structure: Leads separate from Contacts, conversion, record types, validation rules firing during bulk operations, governor limits on mass DML. Attio has none of that. People are people, there is no lead conversion step, and a merge does not trip a trigger cascade. The duplicate problem in Attio is smaller in shape — which is why a single-purpose tool can cover it.

What to set up in the first week

  1. A match rule per object you care about, starting with the strongest exact key — email for people, domain for companies — before adding fuzzy comparison.
  2. A dry-run scan to size the backlog, then a small merged batch verified by hand before the bulk pass.
  3. A weekly scheduled scan with the alert email, so the backlog does not rebuild between cleanups.
  4. Unique-attribute matching on every integration that writes into Attio, so prevention and cleanup are not fighting each other. See Zapier and Make dedupe.

See what is duplicated before changing anything

Connect your Attio workspace, write one match rule, and run a scan. Scans are read-only — you see every group and the reason it matched before anything is merged.
